Success at the Fishing Derby and Corsica River Day

It was a busy weekend on the Corsica River. On Friday evening, September 11th, over 50 young fisherman and their families participated in Centreville’s annual Fishing Derby. The photo below shows one successful catch. And then on Sunday, the Conservancy partnered with the County’s Parks and Recreation Department to host Corsica River Day on the grounds of the Corsica Sailing Center. Exhibitors included the Sailing Center, Master Gardeners, Washington College program to restore Conquest Preserve, the Sheriff’s Department and many others. Families had fun with face painting, kayaking, boat trips to the water quality buoys, good food and good music. Make a plan now to attend next year’s event. It is a wonderful way to celebrate our community and the river.
