The future of Centreville and the health of the Corsica River are being debated at a public hearing at the Kent Island Library in Stevensville at 6:35 pm on August 25. The Town of Centreville has included the area known as Providence Farm, a 279-acre property across from Centreville High School, in its future growth plans. County Commissioners will consider whether to change the County’s Comprehensive Water and Sewer Plan from “no planned service” to “future service” for an anticipated development of up to 900 housing units. This discussion is taking place at the same time the Town is asking the Maryland Department of the Environment for a permit that will double the outflow of a new plant, which is in the planning stages.
Decisions about wastewater infrastructure, sewer service, and development can affect the river and you, its nearby residents, for decades. And you can participate in the discussion.

At the August 11 Commissioner’s meeting, Commissioner Chris Corchiarino noted that sewer allocations are among the most consequential votes the Commissioners take. Yet, few people have been engaged despite concerns about development and over development. He urged the public to call, email, and attend meetings earlier in the process rather than after key decisions are made.
